๐ŸŒฒ Sayuwon: A Deeply Reflective Arboretum in Gunwi, Korea

A slow walk through time, thought, and natural design

If you’re planning a trip to Korea, there’s one place I highly recommend—

not in Seoul, but quietly nestled in Gunwi, near Daegu.

This place is called Sayuwon (์‚ฌ์œ ์›),
a one-of-a-kind arboretum designed not just for sightseeing,
but for deep thought and silent walking.

๐Ÿ“Œ What is Sayuwon?

Sayuwon is a private hillside arboretum and contemplative garden built across 700,000㎡ of the Palgong Mountain ridgeline.
It was established by Silla Steel Co., Ltd., led by chairman Yoo Jae-sung,
who personally collected centuries-old trees, rocks, and natural forms from across Korea—
and curated them with the help of renowned architects, landscape designers, and artists.

This is not a place to be impressed by grandeur.
It is a space where nature and human time quietly co-exist,
and where you are invited not to admire—but to feel.

๐ŸŒฟ What Makes Sayuwon Unique?

A place shaped by slowness:
From stone arrangements to tree placements, every part of Sayuwon tells a story of patience and thoughtful design.

  • A “non-thought” walking trail: You walk through valleys and ridgelines, listening to the wind shaped by the Korean seasons.
