🌿 Groro's First Offline Plant Sharing Meetup: A New Kind of Green Community
An LG Tiium-Powered Plant Platform That Goes Beyond Information
In February 2024, I had the chance to attend the very first offline meetup hosted by Groro, a plant-sharing and community app that originally spun out of LG’s Tiium smart planter project.
If you thought plant apps were all about species identification and care guides—Groro is different. It focuses on real-life plant lovers (a.k.a. Makers) and the stories we grow with our plants.
📱 What Is Groro?
Launched around 3 years ago, Groro is a plant-focused platform where users can track their plants, connect with fellow indoor gardeners, and share updates or challenges.
While most plant apps focus on databases or AI-based care tips, Groro is unique for fostering a community of plant owners through events, missions, and social engagement.
🌸 Attending Groro’s First Offline Maker Meetup (Feb 2024)
When I saw the announcement on the app for a limited offline event, I applied just out of curiosity—and got selected! So I attended under my nickname, Greenfingers.
The event took place at Mode Lounge in Gangnam, Seoul—my first time visiting the area in a while.
The space? Think whimsical pink café, not your typical earthy plant shop. The vibe was unexpected but refreshing.
🎁 What Happened at the Event
- Opening Remarks: The Groro team introduced the app’s vision and walked us through their community evolution.
- Timeline Wall: A visual timeline displayed how Groro grew—from its Tiium roots to today’s thriving app. I personally discovered Groro in October 2023, and have been posting updates on my blog ever since.
- Surprise Guest: A key developer behind the original LG Tiium project also joined the session to talk about how it all began!
- Plant Sharing Time: Makers brought plants to donate or exchange. We walked around, checked each other’s green companions, and marked the ones we hoped to take home.
🌱 Plants I Took Home
I ended up bringing back a full bag of goodies:
- 🌼 Impatiens (which bloomed within 2 weeks!)
- 🌿 Root-cutting plants, all now re-potted and thriving
- 🌾 Canola seeds, which I’m saving for an autumn planting project
🧠 Thoughts on the Experience
What made this event stand out was how well-designed and intentional it all was.
From the space to the flow of the session, every detail was thought through.
And that’s Groro in a nutshell: a digital platform that makes room for offline connection and real community.
💬 Final Thoughts
From app to offline, Groro is proving that digital plant communities can bloom in real life.
If you’re looking for more than plant facts—and want to meet other people who grow joyfully—Groro might be your next favorite app.
🌿 “Not just an app. A community where plants and stories grow together.”
