🥬 Make Your Own Kimchi at Dorozoom Village in Cheongju

🥬 Make Your Own Kimchi at Dorozoom Village in Cheongju

A seasonal experience in rural Korea—learn how traditional kimchi is made, taste it fresh, and take home what you make!

Note: This post is based on a past event held in 2023. This kimchi-making program usually opens during Korea's winter kimjang season (November–December).

1. A Glimpse Into Korea’s Kimjang Tradition

We were lucky to join a traditional kimjang (김장) demonstration at Dorozoom Village, a rural community in Cheongju known for its clean highland air and hearty vegetables.
The village welcomed us with prepped cabbage, spice mix, aprons, gloves, and smiles. No need to bring anything—just a kimchi container and good energy!

2. Kimchi-Making, Step by Step

The village residents guided us through the entire process:
how to rub the seasoning, fold the cabbage just right, and how to pack it for storage.
Even kids participated, carefully helping to season and roll each cabbage leaf.

3. Eat What You Make—with Bonus Pork and Sweet Potatoes!

Once the kimchi was done, we were treated to a farm meal: warm boiled pork slices (bossam), sweet potatoes, and roasted chestnuts.
The combination of fresh kimchi and savory pork? Absolute perfection.

4. A Ready-to-Go Kimjang Package

What made this experience special is how easy and complete it was.
Everything was prepared by the village—you just bring your container, make your kimchi, enjoy the meal, and go home with your year’s batch done.
Everyone agreed: the kimchi was delicious both on-site and at home!
