🌱 Plant Therapy and the Power of Green: How We Grow Together with Nature
Hello, I’m SOUUP—the "forest" architect from Planet Greenfingers.
In a world that’s moving faster than ever, many of us are quietly seeking peace, comfort, and grounding. And often, we find it not through screens or speed—but through plants.
🌿 What’s Happening in Korea? A Growing Movement for Plant-Based Healing
On May 1, 2024, Yeoncheon County in Gyeonggi Province announced that it would roll out a visiting therapeutic agriculture program, partnering with organizations such as the Mental Health Welfare Center, Family Support Center, and others.
Their goal is to improve emotional and physical well-being through agriculture-based healing programs tailored to the unique needs of local communities. And Yeoncheon isn’t alone—cities and counties across South Korea are now actively embracing plant therapy.
💚 Greenfingers Has Been Doing This Since 2022
Back in April 2022, we at Greenfingers signed an MOU with Cheongju Eastern Fire Station. Together, we launched the Companion Plant Psychological Support Program for disaster-vulnerable groups, including firefighters.
The program ran for seven weeks per group (one hour per week) and was repeated four times through December 2022. Each session covered:
- 🌱 The healing power of plants
- 🌼 How to grow indoor plants successfully
- 🌱 Activities to help people reconnect with themselves through their plants
While plants themselves are powerful healers, our real hope was that participants would gain personal insight, self-compassion, and calm through their time with nature.
🧠 Why Do Plants Heal Us?
Psychologist Seojung Geun once said that the green of plants taps into a deep longing within us—something ancient and instinctive. Research also shows that natural environments:
- 🌳 Reduce stress and anxiety
- 💊 Help with pain management
- 💗 Balance the autonomic nervous system (Source: Kim Su-yeon et al., 2020)
In short, plants make us feel better, and interacting with them multiplies that effect.
🚜 What’s Next? A New Home for Healing
Right now, Greenfingers is relocating from Bangseo-dong to a peaceful new farm in Nangseong-myeon, Cheongju. The goal? To create an even better environment for plants—and people.
We’re not just building a space; we’re creating a platform where people can learn, reflect, and heal through nature. Soon, we’ll share new versions of our plant therapy programs, redesigned with love and care.
🌍 Walking with Nature in a Fast-Changing World
Even as the world changes at lightning speed, nature’s rhythm remains steady. And Greenfingers is here to walk that slower, deeper path—together with you.
If this resonates with you, I’d love for you to follow along. Whether you’re here for plant care tips, healing inspiration, or just a green moment in your day—welcome to Planet Greenfingers.
