Aroma Therapy



 Aromatherapy is a portmanteau of 'aroma,' meaning fragrance, and 'therapy,' meaning treatment. 

 It refers to the use of scents for therapeutic purposes and involves the use of essential oils, which are extracts derived from herbs and plants (source: Namu Wiki).

 According to a doctoral thesis from Jung-Ang University titled 'The Effects of Aroma Blending Essential Oil Inhalation on Fatigue, Stress, Depression, and Happiness in Nurses' by Yuna Paik in 2022, the results of an experiment using a blend of peppermint, lime, rosemary, and clary sage essential oils showed that the group inhaling the oil experienced a reduction in acute and cumulative fatigue, a decrease in depression, and an increase in happiness. 

 However, the study found that it had no significant impact on stress reduction.

 Artificial scents can sometimes cause headaches, but fragrance, nonetheless, has a positive impact on us. Natural scents, especially those provided by nature, can be a valuable resource for promoting health and recovering from fatigue.

 After experiencing making natural air fresheners with the theme of House plants, I realized the benefits of scents for humans. 

 It made me feel that I should explore this field further.

 Below is my experience with making natural air fresheners at the National Sejong Arboretum.

 With the right materials, it seems like something that can easily be done at home."


Experience booth


Here are some natural ingredients for making natural air fresheners.


The scents are ready with essential oils.
* Base Note: Apply ylang-ylang scent once.
* Middle Note: Apply lavender or geranium scent twice.
* Top Note: Apply orange or eucalyptus scent three times.


I could smell the scents, and among them,
orange, eucalyptus, geranium, lavender, ylang-ylang, etc.
Orange was the best.


Instructions for Making Natural Air Fresheners



▲ From left to right:
pine cone, cotton, cinnamon stick, pine cube, pine piece, wooden stick, wooden piece. Combine them, then apply essential oils in the following order.
Choose one of two scents:
Base Note 1 time → Middle Note 2 times → Top Note 3 times.


And then, just put them in the prepared bag - that's it!
Pretty easy, right?
But because it was done as a simple experience,
the scent doesn't last very long.  


Labeling

About 10 days later, the remaining scent is cinnamon.
Truly a natural fragrance.
